David Dodwell of Nisbet Plantation on Nevis Named Caribbean Hotelier of the Year

NEVIS,   West Indies — (Hospitality Business News) David Dodwell, the owner of Nisbet Plantation Beach Club on Nevis and hotel industry veteran, has just been named the 2010 Caribbean Hotelier of the Year – the highest professional honor given by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association. Peter Yesawich of Ypartnership presented Dodwell with the award in front of an international audience of hospitality leaders and tourism officials at the 2011 Caribbean Marketplace in Jamaica.

Dodwell, who has more than four decades of hospitality career experience and also owns The Reefs – a renowned beachfront hotel in Bermuda, was honored by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association for his achievements in the areas of hotel operations, food and beverage, marketing, property maintenance, staff training and motivation as well as his commitment to the environment and the St. Kitts and Nevis community. He becomes the 33^rd recipient of the distinguished golden conch shell and joins an elite list of the most accomplished hotel leaders in the Caribbean.

At least that’s what developers in the Caribbean seem to think, especially in trendy areas like St. Lucia, Anguilla, the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos, where grand ambitions and a large dose of positive thinking have buoyed high-end resort development for yet another year.

Unpaid debt leads to $1 million lawsuit in Turks and Caicos

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands -- On July 24, Condé Nast Publications, a leading publishing company that is home to numerous magazines and websites, filed a lawsuit in a New York District Court seeking to recover more than one million dollars in unpaid advertising, attorney’s fees, and interest from the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board. Caribbean Hotel Profits Hit Hard by Economic Recession

ATLANTA, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- PKF Hospitality Research (PKF-HR), an affiliate of PKF Consulting, announced today that, according to its newly released 2009 edition of Caribbean Trends(R) in the Hotel Industry, the average Caribbean hotel saw bottom-line profits decline 16.0 percent in 2008. The report concludes that the global economic recession was the primary driver of the double-digit profit decline. Given the poor market conditions observed this year, further profit deterioration is expected in 2009.
