Former Trump hotel in Fort Lauderdale still mired in litigation

More than a year after it was set to open, only maintenance crews and real estate types appear to be making regular use of the former Trump International Hotel & Tower on Fort Lauderdale’s beach.
The 298-unit condo-hotel is beset by litigation, including two class action lawsuits from buyers and a foreclosure by a government-chosen successor to the original lender, Corus Bank.
During a Dec. 21 hearing, attorneys for the lender, Donald J. Trump and two of his companies argued that claims against them in one of the class action cases should be dismissed. A decision by U.S. District Judge Adalberto Jordan was pending at deadline.

Trump pays down hotel debt

Developers of the Trump SoHo hotel-condo building "substantially paid down" the debt owed on the project to iStar Financial after receiving a new loan from CIM Group.
Trump Soho is a joint venture between the Trump Organization and the project's developers, Bayrock Group and the Sapir Organization.
Donald and Ivanka Trump both declined to discuss financial terms of the deal.
In September, iStar offered $20 million more in financing to the Trump SoHo in a mortgage restructuring. It had already lent more than $250 million to the project, the Wall Street Journal reported.
IStar, the New York-based commercial real-estate lender, had about $2.8 billion of non-performing loans as of Sept. 30. It may refinance loans with a new $1 billion to $2 billion credit line as an alternative to bankruptcy, according to people with direct knowledge of the matter.

Trump SoHo Gets Financing Boost

Trump SoHo, the flashy downtown hotel-condo project that has struggled to sell units, announced Wednesday it has restructured its financing with iStar Financial in a deal that increases its loan by $20 million.

The deal gives the 391-unit development more breathing room as it tries to ride out a turbulent real-estate market that's been particularly hard on condo hotels. It shows that iStar, which already has lent more than $250 million to Trump SoHo, has faith in the project. But it's not clear whether it will be enough to restore the project to health.

Financing trouble blocks buyers' possession of Trump hotel units

The Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk is getting close to being a year old, but most of the units in the hotel-condominium still haven't been conveyed to buyers or occupied.

A problem tied to financing the ultraluxury project, which sold out in 2006, blocked conveyance of units to buyers in late November shortly after the tower was completed. At the time of the suspension, only 101 of the building's 462 units had been transferred to buyers.
