Sheraton Room Attendants protest "Green Initiative"

(Hospitality Business News - November 20, 2010) Is it a “Green Initiative”, a cost cutting program during tough times, or both? Room attendants at the Sheraton Centre in downtown Toronto think it’s a cost cutting move and is costing jobs.
According to a report by the Toronto Star about 20 hotel workers, politicians and labour leaders barged into a morning housekeeping meeting at the downtown Sheraton Centre on Thursday to protest a Green Choice initiative they say cuts jobs.

Phoenix hotels letting guests go greener

PHOENIX (AP) - Guests checking into the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa or Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel can do more than order breakfast or request privacy by hanging a card outside their door.

They can also decline daily housekeeping service.

The hotels are among a small but growing group who have taken their in-room "green" initiatives up a notch, adding the option of no cleaning on top of existing options to reuse towels and forego fresh sheets.

The Ritz-Carlton announced today it will offer environmentally-friendly water bottles at its North American hotels and select properties in the Caribbean. Hotel toiletries - the new green battleground

Hotel amenity kits are quickly becoming the latest battleground for hotels looking to assert their green credentials.
