Famed doughnut company Krispy Kreme is suing the operators of its last remaining New York City store over a claim that they cooked up their own recipe when they ran out of "key proprietary Krispy Kreme ingredients," the New York Post reported Friday.

Krispy Kreme Reports Net Income for the Fourth Quarter and Breakeven Results for the Fiscal Year Ended January 31, 2010
Fourth Quarter Fiscal 2010 Highlights Compared to the Year-Ago Period:
Revenues decreased 5.6% to $86.8 million from $91.9 million; approximately $1 million of the decrease was due to refranchising
Company same store sales rose 1.1%, the 5th consecutive quarterly increase
Operating income increased 65% to $2.4 million from $1.5 million (the results reflect impairment charges and lease termination costs in both periods of $2.0 million and $1.2 million, respectively)
Net income was $0.5 million compared to a net loss of $0.3 million

Krispy Kreme Franchisee Opens First Store in Shanghai, China
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation today announced that its long-time franchise partner, KKD Lotte Holdings Company, Ltd., has opened the first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Shanghai, China. Shanghai is the largest city in China, and the new shop is located at the In-Point Shopping Mall on the vibrant Wu-Jiang pedestrian walkway. KKD Lotte also is Krispy Kreme's franchisee in the Republic of Korea and Japan.

Is Wendy's/Arby's thinking donuts?
Wendy's/Arby's Group Inc. has been looking for a third brand to bring into the fold, and it may have found it in Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. Business news service Briefing.com said Monday that the the donut brand was "the subject of chatter about a potential takeover by Wendy's/Arby's Group," as reported by Barron's.

Krispy Kreme Expanding in Caribbean
[2009-10-21] Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation announced that it entered into a franchise development agreement with Dominspec, S.A. for the development of 14 Krispy Kreme shops over the next five years in the Dominican Republic. Dominspec, S.A. is a quick-service restaurant conglomerate that operates Burger King and Papa John's restaurants in the Dominican Republic.
