Papa John's Q3 profit misses Street, cuts FY EPS view

Nov 3 (Reuters) - Papa John's International's (PZZA.O) quarterly profit missed market expectations as higher commodity costs and heavy discounting dented its operating margins and it cut the upper end of its 2010 adjusted earnings view.
The company cut the upper end of its 2010 earnings view by 2 cents and now targets earnings of $1.74-$1.80 a share for the year.
Papa John's added that current pricing and promotional environment in the pizza category, coupled with increasing commodity costs trends, would result in continued restaurant margin pressures in the fourth quarter.

Papa John's global president Mitchell resigns

(May 12, 2010) Papa John’s International Inc. said chief financial officer David Flanery would oversee the company’s global operations on an interim basis following the resignation of its president of global operations, William M. Mitchell.

In filing made Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Papa John's said Mitchell had resigned April 29 and that it had agreed to pay him $463,906 in severance.

Jude Thompson, Papa John’s president who recently was promoted to co-chief executive, informed investors of Mitchell’s resignation during the company’s most recent earnings conference call.

Papa John’s passes $2B in online sales

Papa John’s International Inc. Monday surpassed the $2 billion mark in online sales since 2001, when the company began offering the option through its Web site, www.papajohns.com.

The pizza chain reached $1 billion in online sales in 2008. At that time, the company predicted it would take three years to reach another $1 billion in online revenue.

Papa John's Announces Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2009 Earnings

•Fourth quarter earnings per diluted share of $0.49 in 2009 vs. $0.46 in 2008 and full-year earnings per diluted share of $2.06 in 2009 vs. $1.30 in 2008
•Fourth quarter earnings per diluted share, excluding noted items, were $0.41 in 2009 vs. $0.48 in 2008 and full-year earnings per diluted share, excluding noted items, were $1.50 in 2009 vs. $1.68 in 2008
•Domestic system-wide comparable sales decreased 0.5% for the quarter and were even for the year

Papa John's Announces Earnings Guidance for 2010

•Projected 2010 earnings per share of $1.70 to $1.90, excluding the impact of BIBP, but including potential volatility in the 2010 price of cheese
•Projected domestic system-wide comparable sales in 2010 ranging from positive 1% to negative 1%
•Projected 2010 international system-wide sales increase of 15% to 20%
•Projected 2010 worldwide net new unit openings of 140 to 180 (40 to 60 net openings for domestic and 100 to 120 net openings for international)
•The 2010 guidance includes a planned increase in the domestic royalty rate from 4.50% to 4.75% effective at the beginning of 2010, although the company at its discretion may contribute a portion of this increase back to the system to support marketing or other activities

Papa John’s rolls out franchisee incentive plan

Papa John’s International Inc. has rolled out an incentive-laden plan aimed at attracting more franchisees for its pizza stores.

Louisville-based Papa John’s (NASDAQ: PZZA) said it will eliminate its $25,000 franchise fee, reduce its royalty rate and cover the cost of pizza ovens for franchisees that open stores in the United States by November 2010

Krispy Kreme Expanding in Caribbean

[2009-10-21] Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation announced that it entered into a franchise development agreement with Dominspec, S.A. for the development of 14 Krispy Kreme shops over the next five years in the Dominican Republic. Dominspec, S.A. is a quick-service restaurant conglomerate that operates Burger King and Papa John's restaurants in the Dominican Republic.

Domino’s Pizza (U.K.) expects bumper year after third-quarter sales surge

Domino's Pizza expects to exceed expectations for the full financial year after boosting sales by more than 10% in the third quarter. Family threatens lawsuit over Papa John's Camaro

A Northeastern Kentucky family is threatening to sue Papa John's over a dispute tied to the company's recent promotion, according to a story on MNSBC.

The promotion, "Papa John's Road Trip," asked people around the country to help locate John Schnatter's 1971 Z-28 Camaro, the car he sold in the 1980s in part to help buy pizza-making equipment. Jeff Robinson of Flatwoods, Ky., the car's most recent owner, claimed the $250,000 prize.

Papa John's Announces Second Quarter Earnings

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug 04, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ: PZZA) today announced revenues of $276.6 million for the second quarter of 2009, representing a decrease of 2.4% from revenues of $283.4 million for the comparable period in 2008. Net income for the second quarter of 2009 was $14.2 million, or $0.51 per diluted share (including after-tax income of $4.2 million, or $0.15 per diluted share, from the consolidation of the results of the franchisee-owned cheese purchasing company, BIBP Commodities, Inc. ("BIBP"), a variable interest entity), compared to 2008 second quarter net income of $7.6 million, or $0.27 per diluted share (including a net loss of approximately $4.1 million, or $0.14 per diluted share, from the consolidation of BIBP).
