Cracker Barrel fiscal 1Q profit rises 32 percent

Restaurant operator Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. said Tuesday its fiscal first-quarter profit rose 32 percent on higher revenue.
Net income rose to $23.7 million, or $1.01 per share, in the three months ended Oct. 29, from $18 million, or 78 cents per share, a year ago. Revenue rose 3 percent to $598.7 million from $581.2 million.

Cracker Barrel Promotes Chief Financial Officer Sandra B. Cochran to President & Chief Operating Officer

LEBANON, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (“Cracker Barrel” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: CBRL) and its Board of Directors today announced the realignment of the Company’s leadership to build on Cracker Barrel’s recent successes and to position the Company for sustained profitable growth. Michael A. Woodhouse continues as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Sandra B. Cochran, who had served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has been named President and Chief Operating Officer. She assumes responsibility for Restaurant and Retail Operations, Retail Merchandising, Real Estate, and the functions that will be led by the newly created role of Chief People Officer. Douglas E. Barber, who had served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, reporting to Cochran. He will lead Human Resources, Diversity and Outreach, Training, and Innovation. Nicholas V. Flanagan has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Restaurant Operations and will also report to Cochran. The Company has started a search for a new Chief Financial Officer; Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer N.B. Forrest Shoaf will serve as interim Chief Financial Officer.

•Fully diluted income per share was $1.09 for the second quarter of fiscal 2010, an increase of 35%
compared with the prior-year quarter

Cracker Barrel Reports 37% Increase in First-Quarter EPS

LEBANON, Tenn., Nov 24, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBRL):


•Fully diluted net income per share of $0.78 for the first quarter of fiscal 2010, an increase of 37% compared with the prior-year quarter
•Revenue for the first quarter increased 1.3% to $581.2 million
•Comparable store restaurant sales increased 0.6%

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. Announces Completion of Sale-Leaseback Transactions

LEBANON, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (“Cracker Barrel,” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: CBRL) today announced the closing of the sale-leaseback of its retail distribution center and fourteen of its store locations, with a fifteenth expected to close on or before July 31st. The transactions are expected to produce aggregate gross proceeds of approximately $57.6 million, consisting of $12.4 million relating to the distribution center and slightly more than three million dollars for each of the 15 store locations. The sale-leaseback transactions were the result of a competitive bidding process.

Fully diluted income per share from continuing operations was $0.52 for the third quarter of fiscal 2009 compared with $0.46 in the prior-year quarter
Revenue for the third quarter increased 0.1% to $567.6 million compared with the prior-year quarter
Comparable store restaurant sales for the quarter decreased 0.9% from the prior-year quarter while comparable store retail sales decreased 7.4%
Operating income margin from continuing operations in the quarter was 5.1% of total revenue compared with 4.9% in the prior-year quarter
