Owner of illegal hotels, facing closures

The businessman who led the charge against a crackdown on illegal hotels - and lost - now faces having his properties shuttered by the city.

Ronnie Oved built a real estate empire buying single-room occupancy buildings and converting some units into budget hotel rooms. While permanent residents pay as little as $200 a month for a room, bargain-hunting European backpackers are charged up to $179 a night.
